You can list your water right for sale or lease on this Web page. There is no cost or obligation to do so.
Here's how it works: enter your water right information in our registry and others who need water
will be able to match their need with what you have to sell or lease. People visiting this site will
not know your identity or be able to identify your water right. We keep that information in our database and it
is confidential.
Remember, to sell or lease a water right, it must be a "certificated" or "decreed" right.
Certificated or decreed rights may be sold to other parties through the "transfer" process. This
requires paperwork and approval by the Oregon Water Resources Department. Leasing is allowed only for
in-stream purposes, but there are several government agencies and non-governmental organizations that
may be interested in acquiring water through leasing.
If someone is interested in acquiring your water right, you will have to show that you have put
the water to beneficial use, and that it has not been abandoned for non-use during any 5-year period during the past 15 years. What that really means in a given case can be tricky, so if you are uncertain about this, please contact us.
If you have a permit, and not a certificate, you will not be able to sell or transfer your water right. However, there are certain things you can do with it. Please contact us so that we can help you identify options for making it marketable.
If you are not sure you want to sell your water rights, but are interested in finding out how
much they might be worth, contact us and we can help you find out.
